But the windows can undo all of it. A standard double-pane window runs about R-2. Your SIP walls are performing at R-28 to R-40. If the windows aren't specced to match, they become the weakest point in the system. And if they don't fit the panel openings correctly, your builder is left improvising on site.

Why not just order windows through your builder?

You can. But most window dealers and supply houses don't know SIP construction. They sell from a catalog and leave the fit details to the builder. That works fine for stick-frame homes where there's room to adjust. SIP panels are custom manufactured. There's less margin for error, and the air-seal strategy is completely different.

They don't account for SIP-specific rough opening tolerances, panel edge conditions, or the frame depth needed for your wall assembly. Your builder ends up solving those problems on site.
